mmmm Queen Latifah.

song on iTunes: The Worst Band in the World/10cc/Two from Ten

Dear Queen,

Man o man. I have said so much about you over the years. They were kind of bad. You know.."Bringing Down the House" kind of got me angry. I dunno man. It just looked a tad mammy-ish. But you know what, I am not going to focus on the negativity because I think you are such a class act now. Do you remember when you came to Mt. Vernon Avenue School in Irvington for our Black History presentation? It was a long long time ago. I was in the 5th grade. You were cool for seeing us. We are all very excited to see you. The Queen!! (u.n.i.t.y was flyyyyyyy during that time) I'm sorry a bunch of us thought it would be cool to chase you when you left. Sadly, Ebere, my oldest sister, planned the whole thing. Sorry for making you run like that.

Anyway, I had the TV on after Law and Order and the news started. By the way, do you watch Law and Order? I love Law and Order, man. I'm kinda addicted. Anyway, you were on the news. There was a image of your movie premiere in....Newark, NJ. I thought my eyes were playing games. Aren't you supposed to be in LA for a movie premiere?? That's where everyone else goes. I do wear glasses so maybe that really wasn't Sharpe James wearing a purple scarf. But then, I saw an image of Newark Screens in the background and I saw a red carpet...and I saw you...and LL Cool J...and Wyclef...and other stars. Wow. And then they interviewed you, and you said, "It's a bona fide premiere -- we've invited everybody in entertainment from New York and New Jersey, label executives, and friends and family. It's a big thank-you to the city of Newark." Wow. This was such a classy move. All the time, our great stars who have made it from the slums to Cribs play lip service to reppin their hometown. We'll get a shoutout in a song. We'll get a check. But you, Queen, totally remixed a very important part of your movie career- the movie premiere and completely showed the world that you're from the Bricks! You sucked your teeth at the glitz, glamour, and Botox of LA and took it to Springfield Ave. You EVEN took it to a city-owned movie theatre, wasn't even a Loez, ya'll. You could have chosen the movie theatre down neck (better part of Newark) No. No. You took it to Springfield Ave in the heart of our great Newark. Talk about gully.

I also read a news report where you refused to hold an interview in New York; rather you told him to meet you in Newark. You showed him all the hot spots. You even took him to Dr. Jays! You took him to the street vendors! Did you get him a white tee?!?!? That would have been fly.

I guess I'm writing you to tell you-----

Can I have some money? Dr. Mitchell said I shouldn't pay for grad school and you know if my scholarships don't happen-- Can I depend on you? Are you on AIM? I'll sign on just for you. BRICK CITY!?!?!? 973! U.N.I.T.Y thatsaunity!

..

anyway. Thanks for being a class act and bringing Hollywood to Newark.

Sincerely,

Chidi
