song of the day:
Slum Village "Players"
Fantastic Vol. 2
Today's song has been in my head all weekend. It is from the J-Dilla backed threesome, Slum Village. Cursory hip hop fans probably know the the new millenia version of the group that gave you the Kanye produced hits "Tainted" and "Selfish". This track is early SV, with the original members of the group. I am not sure what happened to the make up of the group but back in day, it must have been nice to have Dilla do all ya beats. This beat blows my mind because the song is called "Players" and when you hear the sample, you think it is saying "Players" too. But... if you listen closely, it really isn't. The sample is from a doo-wop sounding song called "Claire". Dilla slowed the whole thing down even the "oooooo"'s from the doo wop (?) group to make it sound like a haunting ass "playerrrrs" in the background. dilla was a genius. Enjoy the listen.
